Channels are how a company reaches the customer segments that it has identified. In a business model, the channels refer to the methods that are adopted by the business to communicate the value proposition it proposes to deliver to its customer segments. These can include sales channels, distribution channels, and marketing channels. These channels refer to how the company will deliver its products or services to the customers. Let us understand it in a better manner using the example of Netflix. The following is how it delivers the content to its customers:

  1. Direct-to-consumer Digital service: One of the primary channels of Netflix is its streaming platform which is a form of direct-to-consumer service. By adopting this channel, Netflix eliminated the need for physical stores or any involvement by third-party distributors.
  2. Multi-Device Accessibility: The platform developed by Netflix is accessible across various devices such as Smart TVs, Smartphones, Tablets, Laptops, and PCs. This allows Netflix to broaden its reach and also enhance customer convenience.
  3. Content Discovery and Personalization: Netflix to curate lists to the likes of a specific customer uses sophisticated algorithms for recommending content to the customers. This leads to enhanced user engagement as the viewing experience is personalized for each viewer.
  4. Marketing and promotion: Netflix uses its platform for targeted marketing where it leverages the user data for promoting new releases as well as original content in an effective manner.
  5. Global Distribution Network: The streaming service which is provided by Netflix acts as a global channel which allows it to reach audiences worldwide without having constraints of geographic boundaries.
  6. Customer feedback loop: The platform of Netflix also serves as a channel for customer feedback which is very important for content curation and service improvements.
  7. Integration with other services: Netflix collaborates with internet service providers and hardware manufacturers to integrate its service into set-top boxes and offer bundled internet packages.
